Turning Labels into superpowers!

Recognise the strengths & beauty in others as well as your own by attending our ‘Turning labels into superpowers’ workshop.

Labels can have benefits but the perception or misconception in the case of labels (including MH diagnosis) leads to problems. Whether it’s wrongly judging someone or being misunderstood ourselves, the consequences often lead to confusion, frustration and even despair.

Sadly, many spend their lives feeling invisible?

Perhaps you feel or have felt that way.

This workshop is designed for participants who wish to

1)    Dispel the myths and facts of labels (Labels are objective, our experiences and abilities are not. We are subjective and can grow).

2)    Distinguish the difference between preconceived ideas and reality of labels.

3)    Stop internalising the shame associated with labels

4)    Identify the strengths connected to those with labels

And

5)    Help others do the same

6)    Finally understand the connection labels has in a culture that nurtures wellness.

About the Author

Hi my name is Alfie, I live with epilepsy and CPTSD, something that I unexpectedly received a diagnosis for in 2024. I have recently learned I am indictive of several ADHD Typologies. I have wondered whether if I knew this information when I was younger, would it have impacted how I saw myself and/or influenced my approach in dealing with challenges growing up.

There were labels, that had been attributed to myself, including mis-diagnosis that did have a catastrophic impact on my mental health, predominantly because I had bought into such labels.

The idea of taking my life was a constant feature during my adolescent years and like many youths today, many vices including alcohol and drugs became coping mechanisms to escape the hurt that I was reliving each day. At 17 attempted suicide, with the consequence resulting in my first epileptic seizure, and and a condition which I live with today.

Fortunately, I have been able to prolong my life, choosing to live a life of sobriety. That said, the labels I carried in childhood is something that has taken time to shake off.

Retraining the brain and how one sees oneself takes time. My personal experience has taught me the importance environment plays and why I am so passionate about creating cultures that nurture wellness.

The purpose of the ‘turning labels into superpowers’ workshop is to empower teachers/professionals to protect themselves from the harmful effects of internalising labels, whilst also being in a position to help those whom one serves.
